Under OSM, the mode of writing the exam does not change — students still write on traditional paper answer booklets. After collection, these booklets are scanned, uploaded to a secure platform, and the student's identity is hidden (anonymised) before being sent to evaluators, who mark the scripts on a computer screen rather than handling physical papers. This approach aims to improve uniformity and reduce clerical errors in totalling marks. CBSE had first explored the system in 2014 but dropped it then because scanning technology was not reliable enough at that time.
