The Bhimmandali Eco Heritage Site, known for ancient rock paintings over 20,000 years old, was inaugurated in Sambalpur, Odisha, on 10 May 2026.

The Bhimmandali Eco Heritage Site was inaugurated in Sambalpur, Odisha, on 10 May 2026 by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The site lies within the Naktideul Forest Range.

The location is historically significant because of its ancient rock paintings and stone inscriptions, some of which are believed to date back more than 20,000 years. The site served as a human shelter from the Old Stone Age (Palaeolithic) through to the Neolithic period.

The site also has mythological importance. It is linked to Bhima from the Mahabharata and includes a cave dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati, known as Gupteswar. Developing such places as eco heritage sites helps protect them while supporting tourism.
