DRDO has inaugurated a new CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) Field Training and Demonstration Centre at Burari in Delhi, under the INMAS-led CBRN Centre of Excellence, to train defence and disaster-response personnel.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has opened a new Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Field Training and Demonstration Centre at the Burari plains in Delhi. CBRN refers to threats from chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials.
The centre was inaugurated by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of DRDO. It will function as part of the planned CBRN Centre of Excellence under the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS).
The facility is equipped with advanced infrastructure, including radiological test beds, heavy ion research facilities and emergency response systems. These are meant to give specialised, hands-on training to defence personnel and disaster management agencies.
Such a centre strengthens India's ability to prepare for and respond to CBRN emergencies, whether caused by accidents or hostile action. It also supports better coordination between the armed forces and civil disaster response teams.
