GalaxEye Space Launches 'Mission Drishti', Largest Satellite Built by a Private Indian Company
On 3 May 2026, Bengaluru-based GalaxEye Space launched 'Mission Drishti' aboard a Falcon 9 rocket. The 190 kg satellite is the largest built by a private Indian company and carries the OptoSAR payload, combining optical and radar imaging for all-weather, day-and-night Earth observation.
GalaxEye Space, a Bengaluru-based private Earth observation space technology company, successfully launched its satellite 'Mission Drishti' on 3 May 2026. The satellite was launched aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket.
Weighing 190 kg, Mission Drishti is considered the largest satellite ever built by a private Indian company. It carries an innovative payload called OptoSAR, which combines optical imaging and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) on a single platform.
This combination allows the satellite to collect both optical and radar data at the same time, in all weather conditions and during both day and night. The satellite is expected to support disaster management, agriculture monitoring, border surveillance, and infrastructure planning.
For exams, note Mission Drishti as a milestone for India's private space sector and remember the OptoSAR payload that merges optical and radar imaging.
