Union Home Minister Amit Shah has begun a series of visits to border areas to review security and unveil “smart border” projects along the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders. As part of this, he visited the remote Sanchu post of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Rajasthan’s Bikaner.

At the post, he interacted with BSF personnel, attended a “Prahari Sammelan” (a gathering of border guards) and virtually inaugurated new barracks for women personnel. He praised the BSF for guarding the country in extreme conditions, from scorching heat to freezing cold.

The Home Minister said the government’s goal is “zero infiltration”, which he said can be achieved through a multi-layered security grid. Smart border projects use technology such as sensors, cameras and surveillance systems to strengthen guarding along difficult stretches of the border.

For aspirants, this topic relates to internal security, the role of the Border Security Force, and the use of technology in border management — all important areas in current affairs and the defence and security syllabus.
