The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Achal, a new Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessel, was commissioned into the Indian Coast Guard at Goa Shipyard Limited on 9 May 2026. The vessel was fully designed and built in India.

More than 50 per cent of the ship's components are made in India. This supports the government's focus on indigenous defence manufacturing and self-reliance, often described under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' idea.

The vessel will be used to strengthen maritime security and coastal surveillance along India's sea frontiers. A Fast Patrol Vessel is a quick, agile ship used for patrolling, search-and-rescue and protecting coastal waters.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the Indian Coast Guard. For aspirants, ship names, the role of Goa Shipyard Limited and the theme of indigenous defence are important defence-awareness points.
