IITM Pune Sets Up Incubation Centre for Weather and Climate Startups; Hosts WISE-2026
IITM Pune opened an Incubation Centre for weather and climate startups on 15 May 2026 and hosted WISE-2026. The centre is part of the Ministry of Earth Sciences’ NEAT initiative.
The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune opened a dedicated Incubation Centre for startups working in weather and climate on 15 May 2026. On the same occasion it hosted the Weather and Climate Innovation Meet for Startups and Entrepreneurs, known as WISE-2026.
The centre comes under the Ministry of Earth Sciences and is meant to encourage private companies and young entrepreneurs to build new products and services in meteorology and climate. It is a major part of the National Enterprise for Atmospheric Technology (NEAT) programme.
The event drew hundreds of participants, including startup founders and experts from leading institutions such as the India Meteorological Department (IMD), NCMRWF, NCPOR, ICRISAT, IISER Pune and several IITs. The aim is to grow India’s climate-technology sector and bring private innovation into a field that has long been government-led.
Aspirants should remember that IITM Pune works under the Ministry of Earth Sciences and that the incubation centre is linked to the NEAT initiative.
