India began hosting the two-day BRICS Heads of Space Agencies meet in Bengaluru on June 23, 2026. As the Chair of BRICS for 2026, India brought together the heads and senior officials of the space agencies of all 11 member countries. These countries are Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.

The theme of the meet was "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability". The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said the meeting would act as an important platform for the member nations to talk about issues that will shape the future of the global space sector.

A major focus of the discussions was space sustainability. Member agencies were expected to share views on running missions in a way that avoids leaving debris in orbit, and on the rules and policies needed for safe, long-term space activity. The agencies also planned to discuss proposed changes to the BRICS Remote Sensing Satellite Constellation Agreement and the terms for a proposed BRICS Space Council.

Indian space-technology companies were given a platform at the event through the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre, which arranged presentations on India's capabilities in launch services, satellites, geospatial intelligence, and related applications. A visit to the facilities of private space firms was also organised to show India's growing space ecosystem.

For exam preparation, this event is important for understanding India's leadership role in BRICS, the work of ISRO, and the rising focus on space sustainability and international space cooperation.
