Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a three-nation tour to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand from July 6 to July 11, 2026, aimed at reinforcing India's Act East Policy and its strategic vision for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific. The visit began in Jakarta, where he was hosted by President Prabowo Subianto, marking his first bilateral visit since India and Indonesia upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018. The visit also emphasized cooperation in emerging technologies and sports science. PM Modi engaged with the Indian diaspora in both Australia and New Zealand, recognizing their role in enhancing bilateral relations.
The final destination was Auckland, New Zealand, where Prime Minister Christopher Luxon welcomed him. The visit followed Luxon’s official visit to India in March 2025 and aimed to deepen economic, trade, and commercial ties, including implementation of the Free Trade Agreement signed between the two countries.
