The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched TribeX, a national digital learning platform, on July 7, 2026, during a two-day national workshop in Bhubaneswar. The event brought together policymakers, researchers, academic institutions, and technology experts to discuss the development of Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) across India. The platform aims to preserve and promote tribal arts, culture, languages, and traditional knowledge through structured courses, digital archives, and interactive tools.
The workshop, held on July 7 and 8, 2026, focused on transforming TRIs into centres of excellence for research, policy formulation, and cultural preservation. It included discussions on integrating emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and GIS into tribal research. The Ministry also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya to strengthen academic collaboration in tribal studies.
The event concluded with the adoption of the Bhubaneswar Declaration, which outlines a national roadmap for institutional reforms, research excellence, technology adoption, and capacity building in TRIs. The declaration aims to make these institutes future-ready and capable of supporting evidence-based tribal development. Over 200 participants, including government officials, tribal welfare department representatives, and experts from IIT Delhi, IIT Bhubaneswar, and private tech firms, attended the workshop.
This initiative reflects the government’s focus on digital inclusion and cultural preservation for tribal communities. By leveraging technology, the Ministry seeks to empower tribal populations through education, research, and sustainable livelihoods. The platform is expected to serve as a model for integrating indigenous knowledge systems with modern digital infrastructure.
The workshop marks a key step in institutionalising tribal research and ensuring that policy decisions are informed by authentic, community-based knowledge. It also highlights the role of technology in bridging gaps in access to education and cultural documentation for remote and marginalised communities.
