The Bihar Police, along with the state transport department, has launched the Lump Sum Traffic Challan Settlement Scheme 2026. The scheme is meant to clear the large number of pending traffic e-challans in the state.

It covers challans that remained unpaid for more than 90 days as of 31 March 2026. The scheme also offers relief in penalties for minor traffic offences such as over-speeding, not wearing a helmet or seat belt, and driving without a licence.

More than two lakh pending challan cases are to be settled through the National Lok Adalat process. Lok Adalats are forums that help settle disputes quickly and at low cost, reducing the load on regular courts.

For aspirants, the scheme is a good example of how Lok Adalats are used for fast dispute settlement and how state governments improve traffic law enforcement.
