Cabinet Approves Two New Semiconductor Units in Gujarat Under India Semiconductor Mission
The Union Cabinet approved two semiconductor projects in Gujarat under the India Semiconductor Mission on 5 May 2026 — a GaN Micro-LED display unit in Dholera and an assembly-and-testing unit in Surat — worth Rs. 3,936 crore.
The Union Cabinet on 5 May 2026 approved two new semiconductor manufacturing projects in Gujarat under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). Semiconductors are the tiny chips that power electronic devices such as phones, computers and vehicles.
The first project, by Crystal Matrix Limited in Dholera, will set up India's first commercial Gallium Nitride (GaN)-based Mini/Micro-LED display facility. The second, by Suchi Semicon Private Limited in Surat, will focus on semiconductor assembly and testing.
Together, the two projects involve an investment of about Rs. 3,936 crore. They are expected to create employment for more than 2,200 skilled professionals.
These approvals strengthen India's semiconductor ecosystem and support the country's goal of becoming a global hub for electronics and chip manufacturing. Building local chip-making capacity also reduces India's dependence on imported electronics.
