Cabinet Clears New Ship Repair Facility at Vadinar in Gujarat
The CCEA on 5 May 2026 approved a new Ship Repair Facility at Vadinar, Gujarat, to be jointly developed by Deendayal Port Authority and Cochin Shipyard Limited at an investment of about Rs. 1,570 crore.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the setting up of a new Ship Repair Facility at Vadinar in Gujarat on 5 May 2026. The project will be carried out jointly by the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL).
The facility will be built at an investment of about Rs. 1,570 crore. It is planned as a brownfield project, meaning it will be developed on or near existing infrastructure rather than on entirely new land.
The facility will include advanced repair infrastructure such as floating dry docks, marine workshops and a long jetty. These will allow the repair of larger vessels than India can currently handle at many of its yards.
The project is expected to strengthen India's maritime infrastructure, improve domestic ship-repair capacity and create jobs in logistics and related industries. It also supports India's aim of reducing reliance on foreign ship-repair yards.
