The Union Government appointed Dr R Balasubramaniam and Dr Joram Aniya as full-time members of NITI Aayog. With these appointments, the total number of full-time members in the government think tank rose to seven.
Dr R Balasubramaniam is a physician and public policy expert. He is the founder of organisations such as the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM) and GRAAM. Dr Joram Aniya is an academician from Arunachal Pradesh and is recognised as the first woman from the Nyishi community in the state to earn a PhD.
NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) was established in 2015 and serves as the premier public policy think tank of the Government of India. It replaced the earlier Planning Commission.
