India and Canada Fast-Track Trade Talks, Aim to Conclude CEPA by End of 2026
India and Canada will fast-track talks on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), aiming to conclude it by end-2026, as Piyush Goyal led a large business delegation to Canada.
India and Canada have decided to speed up talks on a long-pending trade agreement and aim to conclude the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by the end of 2026. The decision came as Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal led India’s largest-ever business delegation to Canada.
The minister’s three-day visit covered Ottawa and Toronto. It marks a major effort to revive trade and investment ties after a period of strained relations between the two countries.
A CEPA is a broad trade pact that goes beyond goods to cover services, investment and economic cooperation. For India, closer trade with Canada can open markets for exporters and attract investment, while Canada gains access to India’s large and growing economy.
The renewed engagement signals an improvement in diplomatic ties. Trade agreements like CEPA are an important part of India’s strategy to expand its global economic partnerships.
