Railways Unveils First Design of India’s Bullet Train for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Corridor
Indian Railways unveiled the first design of the country’s first bullet train on 18 May 2026 for the 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor, built using Japanese Shinkansen technology.
The Ministry of Railways unveiled the first visual design of India’s maiden bullet train on 18 May 2026. The train is being built for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, which is India’s first bullet train project.
The corridor is about 508 kilometres long and is being developed using Japanese Shinkansen technology. Once it becomes operational, it is expected to cut the travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad from more than seven hours to roughly two hours.
The project includes advanced engineering features such as an undersea tunnel beneath Thane Creek. The high-speed train sets are being developed under the Make in India initiative, which aims to build manufacturing capacity within the country. The project is seen as a major milestone in modernising India’s transport infrastructure.
For exam aspirants, the key facts are the corridor name, its length of 508 km, the use of Shinkansen technology, and that it is India’s first high-speed rail project.
