India and Norway have strengthened their partnership in science and innovation by signing five major bilateral agreements. The agreements were signed in Oslo, the capital of Norway, on 18 May 2026. They cover cooperation in clean energy, offshore wind technology, geosciences, sustainability and public health research.
On the Indian side, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) are the main partners. They will work with leading Norwegian institutions such as SINTEF, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the research centre FME NorthWind.
The agreements also support student mobility and scientific exchanges, allowing researchers and students from both countries to study and work together. They include cooperation on advanced infrastructure solutions in areas like renewable energy.
For India, these agreements bring access to Norway’s expertise in offshore wind and green technology, which can help India expand renewable energy and meet its climate goals. Such partnerships are part of India’s wider science diplomacy with developed nations.
For exam aspirants, remember: five agreements were signed, the partner country is Norway, the venue was Oslo, and the lead Indian bodies were CSIR and DSIR.
