India–Oman CEPA Comes Into Force, Opening Duty-Free Access for Indian Exports
The India–Oman CEPA came into force on 1 June 2026, giving nearly all Indian exports duty-free access to Oman. It adds to India’s widening network of trade agreements with the UAE, UK, EU, Australia and others.
The India–Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) came into force on 1 June 2026, giving a modern legal framework to one of the world's oldest trading relationships. A CEPA is a wide-ranging trade pact that covers not only goods but also services, investment and broader economic cooperation between two countries.
Under the agreement, Oman has offered duty-free access on about 98% of its tariff lines, covering nearly the entire value of India's exports to the country. Before the deal, only a small share of Indian exports entered Oman duty-free, so the change is expected to give a significant boost to Indian exporters.
Bilateral trade between the two countries has grown from about $8.94 billion in 2023-24 to around $11.18 billion in 2025-26. Oman is strategically located at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, which makes it important for India's energy security and trade routes.
The Oman CEPA adds to a growing list of trade agreements India has concluded, including with the UAE, Australia, the European Free Trade Association, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and the European Union. Together these reflect India's strategy of diversifying its trade partnerships and integrating more deeply into global supply chains.
