Mizoram and Ladakh signed reform-linked agreements with the Ministry of Jal Shakti on 6 May 2026 for Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, which aims for sustainable, community-led rural drinking water under the Har Ghar Jal vision by 2028.
Mizoram and Ladakh signed reform-linked agreements with the Ministry of Jal Shakti on 6 May 2026 for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0.
The Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide a sustainable and community-led rural drinking water supply, working toward the vision of 'Har Ghar Jal' (tap water to every household) by 2028.
Both regions have already made strong progress. Mizoram achieved near-complete coverage in its water supply schemes and set up several water testing laboratories. Ladakh recorded more than 98 per cent Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) coverage in its rural areas.
The agreements also stress the role of Village Water and Sanitation Committees and community participation in running and maintaining the systems. They encourage convergence with other schemes such as MGNREGA so that rural water infrastructure stays sustainable in the long run.
For exam aspirants, remember that Jal Jeevan Mission is under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, its 'Har Ghar Jal' goal, the term Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC), and the role of Village Water and Sanitation Committees.
