Mumbai Hosts Kimberley Process Intersessional Meeting 2026 Under India’s Chairmanship

Mumbai is hosting the Kimberley Process Intersessional Meeting 2026 from 11 to 14 May 2026. The meeting is being organised under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. India took over as Chair of the Kimberley Process on 1 January 2026.

The Kimberley Process is an international system created to stop 'conflict diamonds' — also called blood diamonds — from entering the legal global diamond trade. Conflict diamonds are those sold to fund wars and armed rebellions. Under the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, rough diamonds can be traded only with a certificate confirming they are conflict-free.

As Chair for 2026, India has chosen the theme of credibility, compliance and consumer confidence in the natural diamond sector. The Mumbai meeting brings together representatives from 86 countries and the European Union to discuss how to strengthen the scheme.

India is one of the world's largest centres for cutting and polishing diamonds, which makes its leadership of the Kimberley Process significant.
