Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing to Visit India From 30 May to 3 June 2026
The Ministry of External Affairs announced that Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing will visit India from 30 May to 3 June 2026, with bilateral talks with PM Narendra Modi on 1 June. Trade, border security and connectivity will be on the agenda.
The Ministry of External Affairs on 28 May 2026 announced that the President of Myanmar, Mr U Min Aung Hlaing, will pay an official visit to India from 30 May to 3 June 2026. This is his first foreign visit since assuming office after Myanmar’s elections held in December 2025 and January 2026. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes several cabinet ministers, senior officials and business leaders.
According to the ministry, Mr Min Aung Hlaing will begin his visit at Bodh Gaya, where he will offer prayers at the Mahabodhi temple and meet Myanmar nationals and Buddhist monks. He will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on 1 June 2026 and will also address a business forum. He will visit Mumbai on 2 June 2026 for business and industry interactions and site visits.
India views the visit as an opportunity to strengthen its multifaceted relationship with Myanmar, which lies at the confluence of the Neighbourhood First, Act East and MAHASAGAR policies. The agenda is expected to cover trade and investment, border security, connectivity projects such as the India–Myanmar–Thailand Trilateral Highway and the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project, and cooperation against cross-border insurgency and drug trafficking. The visit will also be closely watched in view of ongoing military operations within Myanmar against Ethnic Armed Organisations in regions bordering Mizoram, and protests planned by Myanmar opposition groups in India.
For exam aspirants, the visit links India’s neighbourhood diplomacy, the Act East policy, the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and key India–Myanmar connectivity projects.
