N Rangasamy, leader of the All India NR Congress (AINRC), was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Puducherry for the fifth time on 13 May 2026. The oath of office was administered by Lieutenant Governor K Kailashnathan.

The AINRC-led alliance formed the government after winning the support of 18 MLAs, which took it past the majority mark in the Puducherry Legislative Assembly. Two other leaders, Malladi Krishna Rao and A Namassivayam, were also inducted as ministers.

Rangasamy himself contested and won from two constituencies, Thattanchavady and Mangalam, with large victory margins. Taking charge for a fifth term makes him one of the most experienced leaders in the Union Territory.

For exam aspirants, the key facts are that Puducherry is a Union Territory with a Legislative Assembly, headed by a Chief Minister, while a Lieutenant Governor acts as the administrator appointed by the President.
