The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has announced the National Panchayat Awards 2025. A total of 42 Panchayats from 17 States and Union Territories have been selected for their outstanding work in rural development and local self-governance.
The awards are given under the Incentivization of Panchayats component of the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA), a central scheme that aims to strengthen Panchayati Raj Institutions across the country. Panchayats are the elected bodies of local self-government in villages, set up under the 73rd Constitutional Amendment.
The awards recognise good performance in areas such as governance, social welfare, women's empowerment, child welfare, water conservation and creating livelihood opportunities. Winning Panchayats receive cash incentives ranging from ₹50 lakh to ₹5 crore, which they can use for local development.
Karnataka secured the highest number of awards, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. For exam aspirants, remember the number of winners (42 Panchayats from 17 States/UTs), the ministry (Panchayati Raj), the scheme (RGSA), and the top-performing state (Karnataka).
