NEET-UG Re-Examination Set for 21 June 2026 as Paper-Leak Case Proceeds

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has scheduled a re-examination for NEET-UG 2026 on 21 June 2026. The re-exam follows reports of a paper leak in the original NEET-UG examination held on 3 May 2026. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently investigating the matter, and several accused persons are in judicial custody.

The paper-leak case involves allegations that the question paper of the 3 May examination was circulated in advance among a chain of individuals. An FIR was registered on 12 May 2026 by a government official under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Prevention of Corruption Act, and sections related to use of unfair means in public examinations. The CBI has arrested multiple accused individuals, who are currently in judicial custody following interrogation.

The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has been hearing matters related to the case, including a bail application filed by one of the accused seeking permission to appear in the 21 June re-examination. The court directed the CBI to file its response by 12 June 2026. In an earlier order on 2 June 2026, the court had allowed the same accused access to study material for preparation of the re-exam, noting that the examination was scheduled for 21 June. The court also raised a procedural question about whether NTA would permit an accused person to appear in the examination and whether an admission card had been issued.

NEET-UG is conducted by NTA and serves as the sole qualifying examination for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate medical courses across India. It is one of the largest single-day national-level examinations in the country, with lakhs of students appearing each year.
