NSO Shifts Annual and Q4 GDP Estimates Release Date to 7 June Each Year
The National Statistics Office revised the release date of the Provisional Estimates of Annual GDP and Q4 GDP to 7 June each year, moving it from the last working day of May.
The National Statistics Office (NSO) has revised the annual release schedule for the Provisional Estimates of Annual GDP and the Fourth Quarter (Q4) GDP. The data will now be released on 7 June each year, instead of the last working day of May as was the earlier practice.
The change was made after consultations with the Advisory Committee on National Accounts Statistics (ACNAS). Moving the date allows the NSO to include important corporate financial results and finalised Central Government account figures such as taxes, subsidies, and capital expenditure.
Including more complete data is expected to make the GDP estimates more accurate and reliable. Accurate national accounts help the government and the RBI plan policy decisions.
For exam aspirants, remember that the NSO works under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) and is responsible for compiling national accounts and major macroeconomic indicators in India.
