The Ministry of Labour and Employment recently organised a special event across multiple venues in Chennai as part of a nationwide initiative to distribute benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana (PM-VBRY). The programme was held at the Indian Bank Management Academy for Growth and Excellence (IMAGE) in MRC Nagar, the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT), and six other locations in the city.

At the IMAGE venue, around 750 participants gathered, including 450 beneficiaries, 122 employers, and representatives from various industry associations. Senior officials from both the Central and State governments attended, including the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) from the Government of India and the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner from the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). A total of 60 employment letters were formally handed over to selected beneficiaries at this venue.

At the CICT venue, the event saw participation from 96 beneficiaries and 14 employers, with senior officials from CICT and the Industrial Safety and Health department presiding as chief guests. An additional 10 employment letters were distributed at this venue, further extending the scheme's direct reach to job-seekers in Tamil Nadu.

PM-VBRY is a Central Government employment-linked incentive scheme aimed at boosting formal sector hiring and increasing enrolment under EPFO. The scheme provides financial incentives to both employers and first-time employees entering the formal workforce, thereby encouraging companies to create new jobs and bring more workers into the social security net.

For exam aspirants, this scheme is significant from the perspective of social welfare policy, labour reform, and government employment initiatives. It connects directly to India's broader goal of generating quality formal employment and strengthening social security coverage, themes that frequently appear in government exams under Polity, Economy, and Social Issues.
