Maharashtra Hosts Grih Pravesh of 5 Lakh PMAY-G Houses; 3-Croreth Rural Home Handed Over
On 15 May 2026, Maharashtra hosted the Grih Pravesh of five lakh completed PMAY-G houses in Satara, and the keys of the three-croreth rural home were handed over to a beneficiary family.
A "Grih Pravesh" (house-warming) ceremony for five lakh newly completed rural homes was held in Maharashtra on 15 May 2026. The event took place in Satara district and was led by the Union Minister for Rural Development. During the same function, the keys of the three-croreth (3 crore) rural house built under the scheme were handed over to a beneficiary family.
These houses have been built under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), the central government's rural housing programme. PMAY-G was launched in 2016 under the Ministry of Rural Development with the goal of "Housing for All" in rural areas. Under the scheme, financial help is given to poor rural families who do not own a permanent (pucca) house, so they can build a safe home with basic facilities.
Along with the housing event, Maharashtra also received central funds and approval for road projects under the fourth phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-IV). These roads are meant to improve connectivity in rural habitations and support better access to markets, schools and health centres.
For exam aspirants, the key takeaways are the launch year of PMAY-G (2016), its parent ministry (Rural Development), and the milestone of three crore rural houses completed under it.
