Prime Minister Inaugurates ₹4,000 Crore Projects in Sikkim on 50 Years of Statehood

The Prime Minister inaugurated development projects worth about ₹4,000 crore in Sikkim as part of the celebrations marking 50 years of the state's statehood. Sikkim became a full state of India in 1975, and 2026 marks the golden jubilee of that event.

The projects cover several important areas, including transport, healthcare, education, and environmental protection. A key highlight in transport is the new railway connectivity through the Sevok–Rangpo line, along with plans for new expressways to make travel within the state easier.

In the healthcare sector, the projects include the expansion of Ayurveda and Sowa Rigpa hospitals. Sowa Rigpa is a traditional system of medicine practised in the Himalayan region. On the economic side, special attention was given to building organic farming value chains, as Sikkim is known as India's first fully organic state.

These developments reflect the government's effort to connect the northeastern states more closely with the rest of the country, boost tourism, and strengthen infrastructure in regions that are strategically important.
