Second BRICS Employment Working Group Meeting Held in Thiruvananthapuram
India hosted the Second BRICS Employment Working Group Meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on 6–7 May 2026 under its 2026 BRICS Presidency. Eleven member countries discussed jobs, social protection, and welfare for gig workers.
The Second Employment Working Group (EWG) Meeting under India's BRICS Presidency 2026 was held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, from 6 to 7 May 2026. Representatives from 11 BRICS member countries took part in the discussions on labour, employment, and worker welfare.
The main topics included social protection through digital public infrastructure, more job opportunities for women, digital skilling, formalisation of the labour market, and welfare support for gig and platform workers. India hosting this meeting reflects its leadership role during its BRICS Presidency.
Technical support was provided by global bodies such as the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the International Social Security Association (ISSA), and the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office. The meeting also prepared the ground for the BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers' Meeting scheduled for July 2026.
