Four cheetahs brought from South Africa under a wildlife exchange programme will be open for public viewing at the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) in Karnataka from 4 June. The animals arrived in India on 18 April and were kept in quarantine before being shown to the public.

The Karnataka Environment Minister said the quarantine period of the four cheetahs has now ended, and they will be released into a separate enclosure at the park. During quarantine, the cheetahs were monitored closely and checked for infections so they could safely adapt to the local environment and weather conditions.

Quarantine is a standard step when wild animals are moved across countries. It helps prevent the spread of disease and gives the animals time to adjust to new surroundings before they are placed on display or released into larger enclosures.

The arrival of these cheetahs is part of a wider effort to bring the species, which had become locally extinct in India decades ago, back into the country through international cooperation.

For exam aspirants, this links to topics such as wildlife conservation, India's cheetah reintroduction efforts, the role of biological parks, and international wildlife exchange arrangements.
