Tata Electronics signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ASML on 17 May 2026 to set up a semiconductor manufacturing facility at Dholera in Gujarat. The agreement was witnessed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten during a bilateral meeting.
ASML is a Netherlands-based company and the world leader in photolithography — the precision technology used to print circuit patterns onto silicon chips. Under the MoU, ASML will give strategic support to set up and scale up chip-making operations in India.
The project is meant to strengthen India’s own semiconductor ecosystem and reduce dependence on imported chips, which are vital for phones, cars, computers and defence equipment. Tata Electronics, a wholly owned company of Tata Sons started in 2020, focuses on semiconductor and precision component manufacturing.
