Tripura Becomes First State to Complete All 51 Priority Areas of Compliance Reduction Drive
Tripura became the first state to complete all 51 priority areas of the Cabinet Secretariat's Compliance Reduction and Deregulation initiative (launched January 2026), using reforms like e-Gazette, SWAGAAT and auto-appeal.
Tripura became the first Indian state to complete all 51 priority areas under the national Compliance Reduction and Deregulation initiative, covering both Phase I and Phase II. The initiative was launched in January 2026 and is led by the Cabinet Secretariat. Its aim is to make governance simpler, reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens on citizens and businesses, and improve the ease of doing business.
To achieve this, Tripura brought in several digital governance reforms. These include a centralised electronic gazette (e-Gazette) system, an upgraded single-window approval platform called SWAGAAT, and an "auto-appeal" mechanism under the Right to Services framework. The auto-appeal feature means that if a service is not delivered in time, the appeal is raised automatically for the citizen.
The state also brought in sector-specific reforms, such as self-certification for land-use approvals and exemptions from certain inspections for industries. For legal review and to measure the impact of these reforms, Tripura worked with the National Law University Tripura and IIM Calcutta.
For exam aspirants, the key facts are that the Compliance Reduction and Deregulation initiative is led by the Cabinet Secretariat, was launched in January 2026, and that Tripura was the first state to finish all 51 priority areas across both phases.
