UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 Result Declared: 13,343 Qualify for Mains
The UPSC has declared the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 result, shortlisting 13,343 candidates for the Main Examination. The prelims were held on 24 May 2026. Qualified candidates must submit their Mains application online between 19 and 28 June 2026.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the results of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026. A total of 13,343 candidates have been shortlisted to appear in the next stage, the Civil Services Main Examination. The preliminary test was held on 24 May 2026.
The Civil Services Examination is conducted by the UPSC every year in three stages. The first stage is the preliminary exam, which is a screening test. Those who clear it move to the Main Examination, and the candidates who pass the Mains are called for the interview, also known as the personality test. This process is used to recruit officers for important services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS).
The Commission has informed that all qualified candidates must log in to its online portal during a fixed window to update or confirm their details and submit the Main Examination application form. This window will remain open from 19 June to 28 June 2026. Candidates have to pay an application fee of 200 rupees for the Mains, although female candidates, persons with benchmark disabilities, and SC and ST candidates are exempt from this fee.
During this window, candidates are also expected to fill in or update other information, such as their cadre preference, and details about a scribe or assistive device where required. Even candidates who have already uploaded their documents and have no changes to make must still log in, verify their details and submit the form, otherwise their e-admit card for the Mains cannot be generated.
The Commission has said that the marks, cut-off marks and answer keys of the 2026 preliminary exam will be published on its website only after the entire Civil Services Examination and the Indian Forest Service Examination are completed, that is, after the final results are declared. For comparison, in the previous year 14,161 candidates had been shortlisted for the Mains against 1,087 notified vacancies.
