US Trade Delegation to Visit India from 1–4 June 2026 for Trade Agreement Talks
A US delegation will visit India from 1–4 June 2026 to finalise an interim bilateral trade agreement. Concerns remain over US agricultural imports affecting Indian farmers.
A team of officials from the United States will visit India from 1 to 4 June 2026 for talks on a bilateral trade agreement (BTA) between the two countries. The visit was announced by the Ministry of Commerce, which said the aim is to finalise the details of an interim agreement and carry forward the wider negotiations.
This follows an earlier round of negotiations held in Washington DC between 20 and 23 April 2026. On 7 February 2026, the two countries had agreed to a framework for an interim trade agreement that both sides described as reciprocal and mutually beneficial.
According to officials, the discussions will cover several areas, including market access, non-tariff measures, customs and trade facilitation, investment promotion, and economic security. The talks need some adjustment after a US court struck down certain American tariff decisions, which affects how the pact is shaped.
A key concern within India is the possibility of US agricultural goods entering the Indian market under the deal. Farmer groups and opposition voices fear that cheaper imports could hurt Indian farmers, who are seen as more vulnerable than large US agribusinesses.
For exam aspirants, this is an important development in India–US economic relations and a useful example of how trade agreements balance market access with the protection of sensitive sectors like agriculture.
