Uttar Pradesh Set to Become Premium Fruit Hub: Fruit Horizon 2026
At the Fruit Horizon 2026 conference at ICAR-CISH in Lucknow, plans were discussed to develop Uttar Pradesh as a premium fruit hub, with a task force, a Clean Plant Centre and a goal of 'zero rejection' in export markets.
Uttar Pradesh is being developed as a premium fruit hub. The plan was discussed at the Fruit Horizon 2026 conference held at the ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH) in Lucknow.
The conference focused on improving the quality and shelf life of fruits, meeting export standards, and achieving "zero rejection" of Indian fruit shipments in international markets. "Zero rejection" means that exported fruit should meet all foreign quality rules so that no consignment is sent back.
A special task force will be set up to prepare an action plan. It will include ICAR institutions, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), exporters and other related agencies. The goal is to increase farmers' income and strengthen the horticulture sector. A modern Clean Plant Centre is also being established to supply disease-free planting material for fruits such as mango, guava, litchi and avocado.
For exam aspirants, this connects to India's horticulture exports, the role of ICAR and APEDA, and government efforts to raise farmers' income.
