ICMR Scientist-D (Medical) Recruitment 2026

Pay: Level 12 of Pay Matrix (Rs. 78,800 to Rs. 2,09,200) plus allowances admissible to ICMR employees.

Essential qualification: MBBS or equivalent degree recognised by MCI / NMC with eight years of experience.

Desirable: MD or MS or equivalent degree recognised by MCI / NMC, or MPH from a recognised university, or PhD from a recognised university in a subject related to biomedical sciences. Experience in research and development related to biomedical sciences, especially clinical trials in government, public sector or private institutions.

Counting of qualification as experience:

• PhD: counted as 4 years of experience.
• MD or MS or equivalent: counted as 3 years of experience.
• MVSc: counted as 2 years of experience.
• MPH, MTech, ME: not counted as experience.

Age limit: Upper age limit is 45 years. Relaxation as per Government of India rules.

2. Register with valid email ID and create a login.
3. Fill the online application with personal, educational and experience details.
4. Upload supporting documents in the prescribed format.
5. Pay the application fee online (if applicable).
6. Submit the form before 5:30 PM on 29 June 2026.
7. Government, PSU and aided-agency employees must produce a No Objection Certificate from the employer at the time of personal discussion.

Selection is made through:

1. Shortlisting of candidates who meet age, qualification and experience criteria. ICMR may further shortlist on the basis of higher experience or qualification if applications are large.
2. Computer-based test (MCQ) on understanding of research methods. The test is of qualifying nature.
3. Interview by the selection committee.

ICMR may decide to use the CBT, the interview or both, depending on the number of eligible candidates.

• Research methods in biomedical sciences
• Clinical trials and study design
• Medical statistics and epidemiology basics
• General clinical knowledge as per MBBS curriculum
• Ethics in biomedical research

The interview focuses on the candidate research record, clinical trial experience and ability to handle ICMR-level project responsibilities.
