Vacancy Details

Vacancy count for CGL 2026 will be announced with the official notification. In recent years total vacancies have ranged from about 17,000 to over 20,000 posts across categories.

Eligibility

Nationality: Indian citizen, OR subject of Nepal/Bhutan, OR Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962, OR person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan/Sri Lanka/Burma/East African nations with intention of permanently settling in India. Non-citizens require an eligibility certificate from the Government of India.

Educational Qualification: Bachelor's degree from a recognised university. Specific posts have additional requirements: - Junior Statistical Officer: Bachelor's degree with at least 60% in Mathematics (Class 12) OR Statistics as one subject in graduation - Statistical Investigator Grade-II: Bachelor's degree with Statistics as a compulsory/elective subject

Age Limit (as on 1 August 2026):

Age Relaxation: SC/ST: 5 years, OBC: 3 years, PwBD (UR): 10 years, Ex-Servicemen: 3 years, Central Government employees: up to 5 years (as per rules).

Syllabus & Exam Pattern

Tier-1 Pattern: 100 questions, 60 minutes, 200 marks. Sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning (25 Qs), General Awareness (25 Qs), Quantitative Aptitude (25 Qs), English Comprehension (25 Qs). Negative marking: 0.50 per wrong answer.

Tier-2 Pattern: Three papers, with Paper-1 common to all (Quantitative Abilities, English, General Intelligence, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge). Paper-2 and Paper-3 are post-specific (Statistics for JSO, Finance/Economics for AAO).
