Sikkim Becomes India's First Paperless Judiciary State

Sikkim has become India's first paperless judiciary state. The formal declaration was made by the Chief Justice of India at a judicial conclave held in Gangtok. With this step, courts in the state no longer require physical submission of documents.

The state's judiciary now works through e-filing platforms, a centralised digital case management system, and electronic storage of court proceedings and evidence. Moving to this system involved setting up servers and digitising old case records over several years.

The initiative supports the wider goal of technology-driven governance under the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. Sikkim became the 22nd state of India in 1975 and is governed under the special provisions of Article 371F of the Constitution.

For aspirants, two facts are important: Sikkim being the first paperless judiciary state, and the special constitutional status it enjoys under Article 371F.
