BPSC Research Officer Preliminary Exam 2026 (Advt No. 08/2026) — Exam Date Announced

Educational Qualification: A postgraduate (Master's) degree in History, Economics or a related Social Science such as Anthropology, Geography, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology or Sociology, with a minimum of 55% marks (High Second Class) from a recognised university.

Age Limit: Minimum 21 years, with the upper age limit varying by category — up to 37 years for unreserved male candidates, 40 years for unreserved female / BC / EBC candidates, and 42 years for SC / ST candidates. Candidates should verify the exact age reference date and relaxation rules against the official advertisement, as these may be revised by corrigendum.

2. For the Preliminary examination, candidates should download their admit card from the official website bpsc.bihar.gov.in a few days before the exam.
3. Navigate to the "Admit Card" / "Examination" section and log in with the registration credentials used during application.
4. Download and print the admit card, checking the name, roll number, exam centre and reporting time carefully.
5. Carry the printed admit card and a valid original photo ID proof to the exam centre.

1. Preliminary (Objective) Examination — single-session General Studies paper.

The Preliminary exam uses a five-option answer format: options A-D are the standard choices and option E means "Not Attempted". Leaving a question completely blank (marking no option at all) attracts a deduction of 1/3 mark, so candidates must mark either an answer (A-D) or option E for every question. Wrong answers may attract standard negative marking as per BPSC rules.

The Preliminary examination is a single objective-type (MCQ) paper on General Studies, conducted over a two-hour duration. All examination centres are located in Patna.
