Vacancy Details

A total of 394 vacancies are open across the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy (158th Course) and the Indian Naval Academy (120th Course, 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme). Women candidates have limited seats (24 in total). The numbers are provisional and depend on available training capacity.

Eligibility

  • Marital status: Only unmarried male and female candidates are eligible.
  • Date of birth: Born not earlier than 02-01-2008 and not later than 01-01-2011. There is no age relaxation of any kind for any category.
  • Qualification: Class 12 (10+2) pass or appearing. For the Navy, Air Force and Naval Academy wings, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at the 10+2 level are required.
  • Class 11 students are not eligible.
  • Candidates must meet the physical and medical fitness standards of the armed forces.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the official UPSC online portal (upsconline.nic.in).
  2. Create an account and complete the one-time Universal Registration (URN).
  3. Fill the Common Application Form and the Examination Specific Module.
  4. Indicate your service preferences (1 to 4) carefully.
  5. Upload your photograph, signature (signed three times) and live photo.
  6. Pay the fee, if applicable, and submit before 6:00 PM on 09-06-2026.
  7. Save the Application Number for future reference.

Selection Process

Selection has three stages: a written examination conducted by UPSC, an Intelligence and Personality Test at the Services Selection Board (SSB), and a medical examination. Negative marking of one-third (0.33) mark applies for each wrong answer in the written exam. Final merit is based on the combined marks of the written exam and the SSB.

Syllabus & Exam Pattern

The written examination has two papers: Mathematics (300 marks) and a General Ability Test (600 marks) covering English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography and Current Affairs. Mathematics and the relevant part of the General Ability Test are set in both Hindi and English.
